Breaking and Pre-Training

The latest of our services that we are able to offer our clientele is breaking and pre training of their young horses. Our GM joined us from Kentucky and brings with him an extensive knowledge of this very specialized service. A retired national hunt jockey from England and from a family of jockeys and trainers Carl was an assistant manager of Miacomet Farm in Kentucky. They have broken some of the best thoroughbreds in the past ten years. Storm Flag Flying, Mineshaft, Finder’s Fee and Albert the Great are just a few of the graduates of this program. It is with Carl’s expertise we feel very confident offering this unique service to you our clients, so that we may further assist you in reaching that final goal of producing quality race horses with that all important solid structure from which greatness is built. The breaking process takes between eight and twelve weeks depending on the individual. It is at this time after discussing what stage our client requires the horse’s fitness level; we begin shipping to their respective trainers. We are able to take your young thoroughbred to within 45 days of racing whilst utilizing our ¾ of a mile European gallop and various woodland trails set into the scenic surroundings of beautiful southern Pennsylvania. Again this is a service that we are delighted to offer and are accepting horse’s for the 2009 breaking season.

Boarding

At Ghost Ridge, as our mission statement explains, we work diligently for our horses and those of our clients. We offer both full and part-time boarding to our diverse clientele as to suit their boarding requirements. At Ghost Ridge your horse will receive the individual treatment that they need, whilst taking full advantage of our beautiful facilities. We are lucky to have a skilled reproductive veterinarian that lives less than fifteen minutes from our farm and is on call 24/7. We have a full time night watch man and all of our foaling stalls are under CCTV cameras. The cameras are monitored by all employees and there are always three employees present at every foaling. This year again we had a 100% birth rate and we expect that this will be the case for years to come, as reflected for the past three years. From birth through maturity we do what is right for our clients and horses alike. We keep all clients informed on their horse(s) progress and strive for excellence each and every day. Whilst at Ghost Ridge your horse is not just another client mare rather a member of our extended family.

Sales Preparation

After several years perfecting what we feel is the right time parameter for a yearling / weanling preparation, Ghost Ridge is now available to offer this specialized service to its clients. Typically, this process takes approximatly  70 days for yearlings and 60 days for weanlings. Our process takes on both the normal forms of preparation; Walking in hand, Exerciser (walking machine) and Lunging and then to the latest and innovative. The weight training methods that have revolutionized the industry have become a vital part of our prep and thus have allowed Ghost Ridge to produce a more defined and affluent product for our potential buyers ( a yearling that is both fit and strong but ready to move to the next level). Too many times, we find ourselves at the sale contemplating over which yearling we can move forward quickly with the least chance of setbacks.,Our yearlings can, hopefully, take away that question. At Ghost Ridge we want the industry as a whole to push things forward, as the horse evolves, so must we... and that is why we feel that our approach can help our horses, clients, and in turn, the industry.
